Funds needed NOW to allow work to continue....

Major work is required on the boiler, which is the original one supplied with the locomotive in 1928.

The project will be split into 3 stages as follows

1. Assessment of the boiler, Locomotive Frame and Running Gear

This includes

Dismantling of the Locomotive

Removal of Asbestos from the Boiler Dome

Survey of metal thickness using ultrasound over a 4" grid pattern over the entire boiler

Shear wave testing

Metal analysis to determine exact steel specifications

Grit Blasting of the Boiler

2. Boiler repair and Certification by Chelatchie Boiler Co. USA

This includes

Shipment of boiler from Belgrave to Portland, Oregon USA

Repair of Boiler at Chelatchie Boiler Co.

Manufacture of a new boiler front course

Rivet new front course to the boiler and re tube

Certification and testing to Australian Standards

Return shipment back to Belgrave

3. Repair and Modification to Locomotive and Running Gear

This includes

Manufacture of new smokebox

New castings, such as the blastpipe etc.

Supply, profile and re-tyre wheelsets

None destructive testing of axles for cracking and manufacture if required

Brake system overhaul and modification to suit Westinghouse air brake system

Design and manufacture of spark arrestor and ashpan to appropriate standards

Reassembly of all parts and boiler to Locomotive

Testing, Trials and Accreditation
