The time has come to get serious!
From now on there will be Climax workshop days on the second Saturday and third Sunday of each month. We start with Saturday 12th and Sunday 20th August. (These are in addition to the regular first Saturday workdays when anything gets sorted out.) This work is able to happen because of all the people who have contributed to the Climax fund. Thank you all for buying shirts, mugs, Narrow Gauge and Footplate Experiences or for your donations. These extra workdays will greatly shorten the restoration time.
If you are not able to help on the workdays but would still like to see the progress of the work, please come along and survey the efforts of the Volunteers. The initial work will involve the new smokebox and working on the boiler. Harry Hibgame has been busy with the design of the smokebox for some time, It will be of rivetted construction and will look like the original. At the July workday, Harry was presented with a Climax mug as a token of appreciation for the work he has done for the project.
The Boiler is Back!
Thanks to Linc and Joan Reed-Nickerson and the team at Chelatchie for their hard work on the boiler.
The Climax boiler arrived back in Australia on Wednesday 12 April. After clearing Customs, Quarantine and Border Control it arrived back in Belgrave on the 24th April. It is good to have it safely back. One hears of containers going over the sides of ships and we would not have wanted that. Planning is well under way for the next part of the restoration. What we need now is money and workers. Workers to rebuild and renew the loco and money to pay for the components that we need to get made. Donations to the cause are always welcome and put to very good use.
